The student awards are presented to students in each of the following categories who demonstrate success. They are considered to be some of the most prestigious awards for students to earn at Utah Tech University. Nominations open at 8:00am on January 12, 2026, and will close at 5:00pm on February 20, 2026. They can be submitted by members of the campus, as well as from the community. A preliminary screening committee will review the materials, then select five finalists in each category. Those finalists will move on to the final judging committee, where a winner will be selected.

Student of the Year
The Student of the Year Award is the most prestigious honor presented to a student at Utah Tech University. This award embodies the University’s “active learning. active life.” philosophy by recognizing an outstanding, well-rounded student who has made a meaningful and lasting impact on the campus community.
ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA
This award recognizes a student who has distinguished themselves through the following:
- Service to Utah Tech University and the community in a variety of ways
- Active involvement in multiple Utah Tech University teams, clubs, or organizations
- Attendance at a variety of university-sponsored events in support of fellow students
- Advocacy for Utah Tech University and its mission
- Leadership that enhances student success and the overall University community
- Academic excellence, demonstrated by maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Completion of three or more semesters of full-time enrollment at Utah Tech University prior to nomination

- Nominations open at 8:00 a.m. on January 15, 2026, and close at 5:00 p.m. on February 20, 2026.

SELECTION PROCESS

- Once the five finalists are selected, they are invited to participate in a private interview.
- A separate selection panel then evaluates the finalists and chooses the award recipient.

The Entertainer of the Year Award is presented to a student who has demonstrated exceptional talent, visibility, and dedication as a performer, representing the high caliber of student talent at Utah Tech University.

This award is presented to an outstanding student performer or entertainer who has demonstrated the following:
- Shown exemplary talent, skill, and dedication in their chosen discipline
- Performed publicly as a representative of Utah Tech University
- Participated in multiple performance opportunities for a variety of audiences during the current academic year
- Demonstrated significant involvement within a Utah Tech University group, ensemble, or department
- Maintained full-time enrollment at Utah Tech University for two or more semesters

This award recognizes a club that contributes to the well-being of Utah Tech University by:
- Demonstrating consistent strength, campus activity, and commitment to serving members and the broader campus community
- Actively participating in and supporting campus life, social events, and UTSA activities
- Providing educational and social opportunities that enhance the University’s reputation
- Maintaining a charter through Utah Tech University’s ICC (Inter Club Council)

The Stafford Student Involvement Award is named in honor of Donna Stafford, who served as Director of Student Activities at Utah Tech University for nearly two decades. This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to a specific organization, club, team, academic program, or other campus groups. The recipient exemplifies going above and beyond in involvement and dedication, living the University’s motto: “active learning. active life.” through meaningful co-curricular engagement.
ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA
This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated the following:
- Shown extraordinary commitment within one specific organization, club, team, or department at Utah Tech University
- Made contributions to a specific area that were not only visible to those within the organization, but became impactful and meaningful to the campus as a whole
- Maintained a full-time enrollment for two consecutive semesters

The Grit Award is presented to a student who has faced and overcome significant personal obstacles, demonstrating resilience, strength, and positivity while succeeding in their educational pursuits. Through their perseverance and determination, this student has made a meaningful impact on those around them and contributed to the success of Utah Tech University by leading through example in the face of adversity. The recipient’s unique journey is inspiring to the campus community and embodies the true “Grit” of a Trailblazer. Grit is one of the University’s five essential learning outcomes.
